In the early morning, Megan, Tasha and I went for a run to the Louvre. It's a 2.2 mile straight shot from the Arc de Triomphe. The weather was mild, hardly anyone was out, and it was perfect.
Back at the hotel, I enjoyed fifth floor views from our balcony while my roommate, Mandy, showered. I once heard a list of things NOT to complain about while visiting Paris, and one of those things is your tiny hotel room and bathroom. True dat. But Mandy was a perfect roomie. She warned me she could be a covers stealer, but none of that happened and while our bed was tiny, we slept like unmoving rocks. All four of those hours that we weren't talking and laughing.
Paris rooftops are one of my favorite sights. This was the view from our balcony.
Hey Mandy with a side order of the McD's sign.
We're full of glee.
First metro stop: Tuilleries. I love the layers of beige in Paris, these walkways for starters.
Brunch at Angelina awaits.
Becky, Megan, Tasha, me, & Star with Mandy on camera duty. Thanks Mandy!
2,000 calories later, I headed to the gift counter and bought the Mont Blanc, their signature dessert, to crack open later. What's a few extra calories to go?
The Mont Blanc consists of a bottom layer of crispy, light meringue, a middle layer of egg-y vanilla custard and a domed rooftop of chesnut cream vermicelli. #nowyouknow
I don't know, but this bathroom had 12 mirrors and each was begging me to take a selfie in it. #hadtooblige
Here we come, Rodin.
Eve.
Gates of Hell.
Heads.
The Kiss.
Auguste Rodin as painted by three different artists.
The Thinker's back there somewhere...
There he is. I enjoyed the trees just as much. #selfiestickchallenges
I really liked this one. I thought it was a dad playing with his kids. Nope. It's a dad eating his kids to spare them the pain of endless hell. Still pretty touching, don't you think? #rodinistortured
Hubba hubba.
Becky, did you take this one? It's a favorite.
Can we appreciate that my kids aren't running wild and tugging at my audio tour? #ultimateluxuries
Megan was entering another realm. Becky was shielding herself from non-existent rain and shine. The Thinker was just thinking. #hessopredictable
Shorts. Flag. Same thing.
Gift shop. I had my eye on a 500 euro statue of the kiss. Wasn't really in the budget.
Onto Rue Montorgueil, a food-lover's paradise.
This fruit and vegetable shop wins the prettiest minimalist organization award.
We bought raspberries and passed them around. Then came the cheese shop. Tasha was reading David Lebovitz's blog post about this street as we walked along and he said that this shop had the best cheese in the world, a Comte, and as a bonus, the cheesemonger looks like Tom Cruise. Ha!
I can see it.
Megan bought some cheese for her hubs back home (I really like that cow print behind her, p.s.).
Tasha had hers cut up and someone rounded up a baguette for pairing purposes. Really good cheese, people. Really good. I think this is about the time Tasha kept repeating, "I'm so happy right now. I'm so happy right now." Rue Montorgueil will do that to you.
This is the oldest chocolatier in Paris, founded in 1761.
Parisian cafe chairs are a top fave of mine.
The green arch will tell you you've come to the right place.
We stopped in a couple baking supply shops. La Bovida and Mora.
Next on the itinerary was Saint Chapelle, a church with amazing stained glass. It was closed when we got there, though, so we took a side trip to Notre Dame, which was not far off. All six of us had been to Paris before, with Becky and Megan having done studies abroad there, so we were trying to see a few things off the beaten path. But the beaten path is tried and true and never disappoints, so why not do that, too?
These ladies. Every one of them is fantastic.
I could stare at the details of the Notre Dame FOR-E-VER.

Selfie-sticking on the Seine.
Mandy surprised me by saying there was a really popular English bookstore next to the Notre Dame. If you're coming from America, you could shrug and move on. But coming from Luxembourg, an English book store is a dream come true. I bought two books. YES.
Look out, sassy face came to town.
We had an hour or so to kill before our dinner reservation, so we headed to the Le Marais neighborhood and I made everyone go to Fleux, a home decor shop. This place really delivered.
The stores just kept going! I think there were four. How did I not buy everything in here?!
Off to dinner!
For dinner we went to Pain, Vin, Fromages (bread, wine, cheese).
We ordered salads and three kinds of fondue. I could lick this screen just thinking about it. One was goat cheese, one was tomato (we dubbed it the pizza one) and one was their traditional one ... no idea what it consisted of. All of it soooo yummy! After dinner we took the metro up to Sacre Coeur cathedral.
Beautiful view of the city at night. We walked around inside the cathedral as mass was starting. Or whatever that was. There were nuns singing for a long time...
Tasha remembered a delicious crepe she'd had several years ago behind the cathedral in the Montmarte neighborhood, so she led us there.
It was the best crepe of my life. Nutella and bananas are nothing revolutionary, but on this crepe they were.
Outtakes from walking around the city...
We made it back to our hotel that night around 11:30 pm.
Some of the best parts of the trip were back at the hotel chatting it up. We examined our loot, ate candy, painted nails and talked about secrets. Oh, and here you can see us air dropping all our photos to each other. Which means this blog post features multiple photographers.
My loot: salt & pepper mills made of walnut wood from La Bovida, two black & white enamel mugs and one roll of black & white polka dot washi tape from Fleux, A Moveable Feast and The Little Prince from that Shakespeare bookstore, two chocolate marshmallow wands from a random candy shop.
A few hours later, we pulled it together.
We went to the Trocadero metro stop to see the Eiffel Tower first thing in the morning.
And see her we did. She was a stunner on that moody, cloudy morning.
These are some special jumps we did that I asked Becky to capture with her really nice camera. I wanted to be like the #asiantourist next to me. #nailedit
Before our train left in the afternoon, we killed time at an indoor market.
Had some Moroccan food for lunch. I didn't understand how to order so my meal was cold and Mandy's was hot. Bahahah! Ending with a peanuty version of baklava made it allll better.
Pretending not to enjoy it for my sake....
Back on the train...
and dreaming of when I can visit again...
