Skiing in the Alps

Guys. The Alps. We did it!
This one was on Adam's bucket list: Skiing with the Fam in the Alps. We did it. And it was so worth it!

As I was researching the trip a few months in advance, I didn't think it would work out. The cost of doing it in Switzerland (our first choice) was out of the question. The cost of doing it in France (our second choice) was out of the question. Also, the confusion I had in booking such a trip was overcoming me. Euro-skiing was not the same as Ameri-skiing. I just couldn't figure it out!

So. I asked Adam to take over. I didn't care if we went or not. But he cared, so he took over. And he took us back to our beloved Austria. (No complaints there!)

I snapped this pic on our way into Austria. We were all so excited to see snow and blue skies.
After we got settled in our apartment in Kitzbuhel, Austria, we rented skis and went to dinner. The next morning, the kids started ski school.
This was their first time skiing and they were stuck with the 3-year-olds. Because apparently older kids in this part of the world do not need beginning ski lessons.

That morning, Adam and I took off to enjoy the upper range.
It rained that entire first day and at lunch time, this was our view as we walked into town. Fog to the max.
Also grumpy and wet to the max. Noah didn't enjoy his first day of skiing. Sienna loved it, though!

After replenishing with goulash and spaetzle and pastries...

Adam took the kids back to the apartment and let me ski alone the rest of the afternoon. When I got to the  upper part of the mountain to ski again, it was even more of a blizzard than it had been in the morning and I couldn't see A THING. So, naturally, I skiied to the next town, Kirchberg, and Adam had to pick me up there. It was a terrifying hour or so of not knowing whether I'd make it down alive. But I did, and we spent a relaxing evening inside.

The next day, the sun came out and we were like WHAT?!?! We had seen nothing of these mountains the day before.
When the Alps revealed themselves to me, I felt like I had been born again. They were exquisite.

The sunshine and blue skies did us all some good and when we picked up the kids for lunch, they were so happy and had a really good morning.

Into town we went for lunch, to the same restaurant and same bakery. Austrian food makes me ridiculously happy.

After lunch, the kids still wanted to ski, so I stayed with them on the bunny hill while Adam took his turn to ski alone up top.
The kids alternated skiing and playing in the snow.
It was a short couple days and a long drive (especially going home, when traffic added four extra hours to the trip and Adam got food poisoning from a Subway sandwich), but we were glad we made it happen.

P.S. My kids thought this soda pop was so good and drank shot glass after shot glass of it, referring to it as "Original fingy". File under: random, funny things I want to remember from this trip.
